Is your venue ready for the occupational violence duty?
For pools, leisure centres, pubs, clubs and councils.
Aggression and violence toward staff is a named psychosocial hazard under work health and safety law in every Australian state and territory. You're required to identify it, control it and keep your controls under review. Regulators recommend documenting it all in a written prevention plan.

Why now
The law changed in every state and territory.
Work health and safety regulators across Australia now treat violence and aggression as a psychosocial hazard that every employer must identify, control so far as reasonably practicable and keep under review. The duty applies to every facility in every jurisdiction, council-run or commercial, metro or regional:
Nationally, serious workers' compensation claims for being assaulted by a person have risen 177% since 2000–01, against 18% for all serious claims (Safe Work Australia, 2025). A mental-health condition claim now has a median cost of $68,600, more than four times the median for all other serious claims (Safe Work Australia, 2026). Your answers tailor the assessment and prevention plan to your jurisdiction's framework.

Questions venues ask
Is a written prevention plan legally required?
In Victoria, no. Written prevention plans are not legally mandatory in Victoria. The duty to identify, control and review the hazard is mandatory; a written plan is the regulator-recommended way to evidence it, and WorkSafe Victoria publishes a voluntary template for it.
In Queensland the psychosocial code of practice is mandatory. It requires the risk management process (identify, assess, control, review), not a written OVA plan. Queensland's only mandatory written prevention plan covers sexual harassment, a different hazard.
In New South Wales approved codes of practice are enforceable from 1 July 2026: comply with the code or show an equal or higher standard.
In every state and territory the duty to manage violence and aggression as a psychosocial hazard applies. A written plan is how you show the work has been done.
Is this an audit?
No. It is a self-assessment, not a certified audit or legal advice. It helps you find and prioritise gaps against your work health and safety duties. Higher-risk gaps should be professionally reviewed; REST Group can help at info@restgroup.com.au.
Who is it for?
Managers of venues where staff deal with the public: aquatic and leisure centres, council leisure, aquatic and customer service sites, plus pubs, clubs and hospitality venues. The duty applies to every employer, council-run or commercial, metro or regional.
How long does it take?
About 10 minutes: 39 yes or no questions in four sections. Your progress saves in this browser, so you can stop and pick up where you left off.
What does it cost and what do I get?
The assessment, your score and your gap list are free. The written plan is $299 + GST per venue per year ($328.90 incl. GST). It includes a cover and contents, prioritised actions in 30/90/180-day windows, a consultation record, a review and adoption schedule, your state's regulatory references and a PDF with fill-in fields. For comparison, consultant-led psychosocial assessments are commonly charged at $260 to $325 an hour plus GST.
Can I get a refund?
14-day money-back guarantee. If the plan isn't right for your venue, email info@restgroup.com.au within 14 days of purchase for a full refund.
We're a council or have several venues: can we pay by invoice?
Yes. Send a quote request and REST Group will invoice you (purchase orders welcome) and send a link that unlocks the plan for each venue.
What happens to my answers and email?
When you start, your email and venue details are saved to a customer record with Stripe, our payment provider. When you finish, your answers and score are added to that record, sent to REST Group by email and emailed to you as your results. Follow-up emails only go out if you tick the box, and each one has an unsubscribe link. Read the privacy page.
Does it renew automatically?
No. It is a one-time payment that covers a year. Before the year is up we email you a reminder, so you can re-assess and renew if you choose.
